A Dream from a bombshell
A Dream from a bombshell was my first full show of theatre I ever devised. At the time I was living in abandoned buildings as a legal guardian. This shaped the immersive nature of the piece, with some of the first iterations show in these buildings. Over four years of research and R&Ds the piece finally came to light.
The story follows the inner world of a young woman named Lan Nguyen, forced to flee her homeland where fear collides with resilience and hope refuses to fade. A Dream from a Bombshell is a fully immersive work inspired by the lives of Vietnamese refugees who escaped the aftermath of war and fiercely rebuilt their lives in the UK.
Developed through the Hothouse residency at Deptford Lounge, the library itself became the stage for Lan’s heroic journey. Corridors echoed with bustling market life, the sound of falling bombs filled the halls, bookshelves became shelters, and rooms transformed into tense immigration borders. The show was a deeply moving experience, that held space for healing, empathy, and shared understanding.
A dream from a bombshell was developed and shared with Vietnamese audiences through local community centres, as well as presented more widely at the Ipswich Festival and Birmingham MAC
